I questioned or disagreed with a lot of the previous vlog, but this time I had trouble thinking of something to say other than "huh, I hadn't thought of that."
ReplyDeleteEventually, I was able to think of something to add to your speculation that Korra's phantom is Rava: At the end of Season 2, Vaatu appeared to be destroyed. It was claimed that if either Vaatu or Rava are destroyed, they will re-emerge from within their counterpart. A timeframe was not specified.
It is my judgement that the central weakness of Season 2 was how unambiguously malevolent Vaatu was. It made Unalaq's trust in Vaatu self-evidently foolish and felt like an intrusion of good/bad dualism, which posits a quest for victory of good over evil, into a setting defined by yin-yang dualism, which posits a quest for balance. Consider now that in addition to Unalaq, both Amon and Zaheer were implicitly of Vaatu's party, but our presumptive antagonist for this book is a champion of order.
If this season gives us a subplot where a.) Vaatu is coming back and b.) that's not a bad thing, I'd feel a lot better about Season 2.
Haha, yes, I just recorded my review of episode 8 and talked about this very theory. (No spoilers, I just repeated you speculation and said it would be cool.)
